MonetizeMore’s Traffic Cop Levels Up: Introducing Bounce and Accidental Ad Click Detection

MonetizeMore is excited to announce a significant enhancement to our Traffic Cop suite. We’ve now rolled out real-time detection for Bounce Ad Clicks and Accidental Ad Clicks, adding to our existing robust protection against Abusive Ad Clicks. This update is designed to further minimize invalid ad click-throughs, securing your revenue and protecting advertiser investments.

What is the big news from MonetizeMore’s Traffic Cop?

Traffic Cop has expanded its ad fraud prevention capabilities with the addition of real-time detection for “Bounce Ad Clicks” and “Accidental Ad Clicks”. This is in addition to the “Abusive Ad Click” protections that were already in place.

Traffic Cop’s Enhanced Protection: At a Glance

New Capability What It Does Why It Matters for Publishers
Bounce Ad Click Detection Flags clicks that happen faster than humanly possible after a page loads (within 1.5s). Blocks ad-clicking bots, protects your RPM, and preserves advertiser trust.
Accidental Ad Click Detection Detects when a user clicks an ad but returns to the page almost immediately (within 4s). Reduces advertiser chargebacks, improves user experience, and aligns with ad quality guidelines.
Unified Invalid Clicks Metric Updates the dashboard formula to: Invalid Clicks = Bounce + Accidental + Abusive. Provides a single, clear Key Performance Indicator (KPI) to show the total fraud being prevented.
Abusive Ad Click Shield Swaps ad units with a honey-pot (pseudo ad) when a user clicks abusively. Absorbs spam clicks without harming your ad inventory quality or revenue metrics.

Deep Dive into Ad Click Spam Detection

Bounce Ad Clicks

A Bounce Ad Click is an ad click that is registered within 1.5 seconds of a user landing on the page. This timeframe is generally considered too short for a legitimate human interaction, indicating a high probability of bot activity.

Accidental Ad Clicks

An Accidental Ad Click is flagged when a user clicks on an ad but then navigates back to the original page within 4 seconds. This behavior suggests the user did not intend to click the ad.

Abusive Ad Clicks

An Abusive Ad Click is defined as multiple ad clicks from the same user within a short period of time. This is a pre-existing feature of Traffic Cop.

How does the “Abusive Ad Click Shield” work?

When Traffic Cop detects abusive ad-clicking behavior from a user, it dynamically replaces the original ad unit with a “pseudo” ad unit, also known as a honey-pot. This honey-pot absorbs any further spam clicks from that user, isolating them from your revenue metrics and protecting the quality of your ad inventory.

Dashboard and Reporting Updates

The Traffic Cop dashboard has been updated to include new columns for:

  • Abusive Click
  • Accidental Click
  • Bounce Click

Each of these columns will have a tooltip with a brief explanation.

The “Invalid Click” metric is now a summation of the three types of flagged clicks:

Invalid Clicks = Abusive Clicks + Accidental Clicks + Bounce Clicks

The order of precedence for flagging a click is: Abusive, Accidental, then Bounce.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this affect my legitimate Click-Through Rate (CTR)?

No. The thresholds for what is considered a bounce, accidental, or abusive click are carefully calibrated to be outside the range of normal human interaction.

Do I need to change my ad tags?

Only if you are a Traffic Cop Premium customer using the API-only integration. To enable these new features, you will need to deploy the Traffic Cop JS Tag.

What reports have been changed?

The “Ad Click Spam” dashboard now features separate tabs for Bounce, Accidental, and Abusive clicks for more granular analysis.

How are honey-pot ad clicks billed?

They are not billed separately. The Abusive Ad Click Shield and its honey-pot functionality are included as part of the existing Traffic Cop pricing structure.
